These are just a few selected examples to demonstrate the type of work we do for our clients.  We are happy to share others and to provide you with pertinent references. Please contact us for more information.

We were retained by a $2-billion, London-based, publicly-held manufacturing company seeking to hire their first General Counsel in the U.S. for it's Florida headquarters.  This search required an appreciation of the political dynamics among the U.K., Canadian and U.S. operations and our assistance in defining the parameters of the new G.C. position and the specific background required.  We identified the ideal candidate within the first group of five we presented to the company.

When a small, family-held, internet-based company was looking to hire it's first General Counsel, the owner turned to AV Search Consultants. They wanted someone local who also had specific experience in their particular service.  We found the perfect candidate who lived within 10 minutes of their office—and he was the first candidate we presented!

We have worked exclusively with a Swedish-headquartered company to develop it's Legal Department in the U.S. and Sweden.  The initial position we filled was the sensitive replacement of a Senior Counsel who was not working out.  In the course of our dealing with the office, we determined that in addition to the replacement attorney, the office had need of a younger attorney who could come up through the ranks.  We identified and presented a young Swede who was educated in the United States.  He was hired in the U. S. and, shortly after starting with the company was recognized as a young lawyer with the talent and personality to be in the line of succession to the General Counsel position in Sweden.  Since our first contact with the company, we've placed four Counsel and have we've further assisted the company by placing contract attorneys through one of our strategic alliances.

We were retained by a National law firm seeking to open a New Jersey office.  We partnered the with the firm's Task Force:  identifying desired practice areas and prospective candidates, assisting the firm in choosing an office location, introducing the firm to the appropriate local services, and then placing their first Partners.  This office is now one of the firm's most profitable offices.  That "turn-key" capability is unique to AV Search Consultants based on our business management experience as well as our search expertise.

We have assisted a number of firms seeking to develop practice areas who were looking for that outstanding Partner with a sizeable practice of his/her own and the business development and management skills to build the practice group.

We worked with a regional law firm aggressively developing it's corporate department.  The Firm needed extremely well-trained Associates with sophisticated experience.  The first three individuals we presented were made on-the-spot offers; all three accepted; and all three were working at the firm less than 60 days after we began the search.

Tips for job seekers in a tough economy:

People get jobs through people they know. Renew old acquaintances, make new connections and stay in contact with your legal recruiter.

A chance encounter can turn into a potential job lead. Don’t allow your preconceptions to close your mind to an opportunity.

Give up the mind-set that only large law firms have truly challenging work. In the current economy, the mid-sized firms with more flexible rates are the ones that are continuing to grow and they’re competing with the big firms for the best matters.

Think of yourself in terms of “value added.” Do your homework on the firm in which you’re interested and be prepared to discuss what you bring to the table, both in terms of skills and potential client relationships.
